Pep Guardiola ‘targeted for Argentina manager’s job’
Man City manager Pep Guardiola is the top managerial target for the Argentina national team, according to the latest transfer gossip.
Argentina have identified Pep Guardiola as their top managerial target for the national team, according to reports in Spain.
AS suggest the Argentine Football Association are willing to break the bank to secure a deal for the Manchester City manager.
According to the report the AFA are prepared to pay $12million-a-year until 2022 in order to tempt the Catalan away from the Etihad Stadium this summer.
A bumper wage is a viable option for Argentina because domestic television channel Torneos are reportedly open to paying up to half of his annual salary.
Rumours of a shock switch are also fuelled by a suggestion from AS that Guardiola has already informed Sergio Aguero that he would “love” to coach Argentina.
Guardiola’s links to Lionel Messi are also reported as a contributing factor to a possible deal, with the City manager reportedly keen to see the Barcelona legend fulfill his potential at international level.
Despite the rumour, it is worth remembering Guardiola has only recently signed a new deal that keeps him at the club until 2021 and is committed to establishing a legacy at the Etihad.
Why Guardiola would ever want to leave City is one question, and it seems like wishful thinking that he would step into international management at this stage of his managerial career.
In other transfer news, City youngster Chidiebere Nwakali has reportedly asked the club to sell him in the summer transfer window.
The Nigerian midfielder has experienced five-loan spells since joining the club in 2015 and is frustrated by the prospect of another temporary move next season.
Th 21-year-old was a member of Nigeria’s U-17 World Cup winning team and joined the club alongside compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho.
While Iheanacho was able to establish himself at the club Nwakali has never been able to secure a work permit and is unlikely to gain one this summer having never made a senior international appearance.
AllNigeriaSoccer have quoted a source close to the player as saying: “Chidi still has one year remaining on his contract with Manchester City.
“But he is insisting to leave as he doesn’t want to embark on another loan.”
