Three players Jose Mourinho had a bust-up with before humiliating West Ham defeat

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is currently in the middle of an intense spat with French midfielder Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.

The fall-out is no surprise under Mourinho as the man is historically known for famously falling out with the players under him.

Prior to United’s game against West Ham, however, reports have emerged of more than one bust-up in the Old Trafford locker room.

#1 Paul Pogba

The most reported of them all, Paul Pogba’s relationship with the Portuguese manager has been questioned since his arrival to Manchester.

The strained relationship appears to have been confirmed in recent weeks as United is yet to come out of its dismal form this campaign.

Following Manchester United’s draw against newly-promoted side Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Portuguese manager had expressed his disappointment at his team’s performance, questioning their attitude in the game.

Pogba responded to Mourinho’s criticism, saying that he wants the team to be allowed to play more attacking football especially at Old Trafford.

When asked why the team isn’t attacking more, he said: “I can’t tell you because I’m a player. It’s not me.”

#2 Alexis Sanchez

The Chilean’s arrival at Old Trafford in January was met with high expectations owing to his great performances during his initial time at Arsenal.

However, Sanchez is yet to show the Reds faithful the kind of edge he had playing for their North London rivals.

Ahead of their trip to East London for their game against West Ham, Jose Mourinho gathered the players for a team meeting. According to The Times, the manager gave the Chilean a dressing down for his poor performances so far in the campaign.

It is no coincidence that the former Arsenal man was dropped from the squad playing against the Hammers. When asked why he did not play Sanchez, Mourinho told BT Sport, “Options, it’s options.”

Reports have now emerged that the manager has warned Sanchez that he may never play for Manchester United again unless he changes his attitude.

According to the Daily Mirror, Sanchez even spoke with his former Arsenal teammate Lucas Perez about the fact that he may have joined the wrong club.

A report in The Sun even claims that Mourinho is fed up with Sanchez’s questioning his tactics and whining for more game time.

Despite interest from Manchester City, Sanchez signed a £500,000-a-week contract with United this January.

#3 Juan Mata

Juan Mata’s relationship with Mourinho goes back to his time at Chelsea. Juan Mata had already made a good impression on the Blues faithful, winning Chelsea’s Player of the Year award two seasons in a row since he arrived.

Mourinho made a sensational return to Stamford Bridge in 2013 after then-manager Andre Villas-Boas was sacked after only nine months.

During this time, Mata struggled to adapt to his new position at the wings to suit the Portuguese’s style of play. His inability to adapt to Mourinho’s tactics soon saw him off the first team and eventually sold to Manchester United.

The two reunited at Manchester United in 2016 amongst fears of yet another fallout. The feud appeared to have settled down as Mata has featured in games under Mourinho since then, but now it appears the rift has once again come up.

Reports have emerged that Mourinho had unleashed a tirade at Mata as well and this has prompted the former Chelsea man to publish an unusual personal blog to address the problems at Old Trafford.

The blog read, “Today, my blog post is shorter than usual.”

“In fact, it isn’t really a time for posts. I want to thank all of you who support us during these tough times. I understand your frustrations.”

“The upcoming game against Valencia is a special one for me.”

“But above all it is another chance to get back to winning ways.”
