Mbappé, Messi laud Dembélé after Ballon d’Or win

Ousmane Dembélé received widespread congratulation from former club teammates Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi after securing the prestigious Ballon d’Or award on Monday, recognizing his exceptional 2024-25 season with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Dembélé, the French international forward, was honored above Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal following a campaign that saw him score 35 goals and provide 14 assists across 53 appearances. His contributions were pivotal in PSG capturing their first-ever UEFA Champions League title, as well as clinching both the Ligue 1 championship and the Coupe de France.

Mbappé, who transferred from PSG to Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 after seven successful years, was among the earliest to praise Dembélé’s achievement. On Instagram, Mbappé described the accolade as “so exciting” and affirmed that Dembélé deserved the recognition “1000 times.” Lionel Messi, another former teammate from their shared time at Barcelona and PSG, also extended his congratulations.

Dembélé’s dynamic offensive skill set, combining pace, creativity, and clinical finishing, was instrumental in PSG’s historic treble-winning campaign under their tactical system. His capacity to operate both as a winger and forward, paired with sharp decision-making and pressing resistance, allowed PSG to diversify their attacking options effectively.

By securing the Ballon d’Or, Dembélé not only solidifies his reputation as one of the world’s elite forwards but also represents a milestone for PSG in demonstrating their ability to develop and showcase top-tier talent. The award elevates both the club’s standing on the global stage and Dembélé’s career trajectory, underscoring his integral role in PSG’s pursuit of sustained continental dominance.
