Rogers’ big moment was coming – Villa’s Emery
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery said young forward Morgan Rogers’ standout performance was the result of steady progress and growing confidence, insisting the 21-year-old’s “big moment was always coming.”
Rogers, who joined Villa from Middlesbrough in January, impressed in Villa’s recent Premier League outing, scoring his first top-flight goal and earning widespread praise for his composure and maturity on the ball.
Emery said the coaching staff had been patient with the England Under-21 international, gradually integrating him into the first team as he adapted to Villa’s high-tempo, possession-based system.
“We knew Morgan’s time would come,” Emery told reporters. “He’s been training with great consistency and intensity. His quality is clear, and now he’s showing it on the pitch.”
Rogers’ development has been closely monitored since his £8 million move from Middlesbrough, which included performance-related add-ons. The former Manchester City academy graduate has featured regularly in cup competitions and is now earning more Premier League minutes as Villa manage injuries across their forward line.
Known for his close control, intelligent movement, and versatility across the front three, Rogers offers Emery an additional creative option as Villa continue to balance domestic and European commitments this season.
Emery said Rogers’ emergence reflects the club’s long-term approach of blending experienced internationals with promising young talent capable of adapting to his tactical demands.
“We’re building a strong team for the future,” Emery added. “Morgan is part of that vision.”
Rogers will look to maintain his place in the squad as Villa aim to consolidate their position near the top of the Premier League and advance in European competition.
