Isak ruled out for months after fibula fracture

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a fractured fibula sustained in Saturday’s win over Tottenham.

The Sweden international scored as a half-time substitute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but was injured in the act of finding the net following a heavy challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven.

Isak left the pitch in visible discomfort, with Liverpool later confirming the extent of the damage.

“After diagnosis, an operation was completed today on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture,” a club statement said.
“Isak’s rehabilitation will now continue at the AXA Training Centre.”

While no official timeframe has been given, the 26-year-old is expected to be out for several months.

Isak has struggled to make a consistent impact since joining Arne Slot’s side in a British-record transfer from Newcastle. His strike against Spurs was only his third in 16 appearances across all competitions.
