Liverpool FC will bring a difficult Premier League season to a close against Brentford FC at Anfield, with emotions expected to run high as club legends Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson prepare for their final appearances in a Liverpool shirt.
Liverpool still need at least a point to guarantee qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League after a disappointing campaign under manager Arne Slot.
The Reds have suffered 20 defeats in all competitions this season, including losses in two of their last three matches, marking one of the club’s toughest campaigns in recent years.
Despite their struggles, Liverpool have remained strong on the final day of Premier League seasons, going unbeaten in their last 10 closing fixtures and avoiding defeat in their last 18 league campaigns ending at Anfield.
Much of the spotlight will fall on Salah, who has been one of Liverpool’s most influential players over the past decade. The Egyptian forward has scored seven goals in eight previous meetings against Brentford and will hope to mark his farewell with another important contribution.
Robertson is also expected to receive an emotional send off after years of success with the Merseyside club.
Brentford arrive at Anfield still fighting for a possible European place. The London side sit just outside the qualification spots and remain within touching distance of both Chelsea FC and Brighton & Hove Albion FC heading into the final weekend.
However, the Bees have struggled for consistency in recent weeks, winning only one of their last nine league matches.
Manager Thomas Frank will also be aware of Brentford’s poor record away to Liverpool, with the club losing their last six league visits to Anfield without scoring.
Brentford striker Igor Thiago could still pose a threat after scoring in the reverse fixture earlier this season, which Brentford won 3-2.
Liverpool may also welcome back goalkeeper Alisson Becker for the clash.
With emotions, European qualification and pride all on the line, Anfield is set for a dramatic end to the Premier League season.
