Liverpool have emerged as the biggest spenders of the summer transfer window, investing more than €100 million on new signings without recouping a single euro through player sales.
A month into the transfer window, the Reds lead the net spending rankings after committing €103.6 million to reshape the squad following Arne Slot’s departure. Under new head coach Andoni Iraola, Liverpool have moved quickly to strengthen key areas but are yet to generate any transfer income.
The club allowed Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate, Andrew Robertson and Rhys Williams to leave as free agents, while goalkeeper Armin Pecsi joined another club on loan.
Liverpool’s spending has focused on two major arrivals. Winger Victor Munoz completed a €40 million move after impressing with Osasuna, while centre-back Jeremy Jacquet joined from Rennes for €63.6 million as the club sought a long-term replacement for Konate and additional cover alongside veteran defender Virgil van Dijk.
Turkish giants Fenerbahce rank second on the list with a net spend of €81.17 million. The Istanbul club have yet to receive any transfer fees after Emre Mor left on a free transfer and youngsters Yigit Fidan and Mustafa Akyildiz departed on loan.
Their biggest investment was the €39 million signing of Mason Greenwood from Marseille. Fenerbahce also recruited Sidiki Cherif from Angers for €18 million, brought back former striker Vedat Muriqi from Mallorca for €15.5 million and signed Nathan Ake from Manchester City for €8.17 million. Defender Adem Yesilyurt completed the club’s summer arrivals in a €500,000 move from Karsiyaka.
Newly promoted Paris FC sit third after spending €79.5 million in a clear statement of intent following their return to Ligue 1. The ambitious French side have signed Mbemba, Sinayoko, Koleosho, Pagis, Coppola and Patrick Zabi, whose €25 million arrival from Stade Reims stands as the club’s biggest deal of the window. Every departure so far has come through free transfers or expired contracts.
Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli are fourth with a net spend of €71.26 million. Despite losing Franck Kessie and Riyad Mahrez without transfer fees, the club have continued to invest heavily, led by the €39.3 million signing of Francisco Trincao from Sporting CP. Eduard Spertsyan also arrived from Krasnodar for €21.9 million, while Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh and Naif Masoud completed the club’s list of paid acquisitions.
Everton complete the top five after recording a net spend of €65.3 million. Seamus Coleman, Tyler Onyango and Idrissa Gueye all departed on free transfers, prompting David Moyes’ side to reinforce the squad. Hayden Hackney joined from Middlesbrough for €19.3 million, Tyrique George arrived from Chelsea in a €21 million deal, and Merlin Rohl completed another significant move from Freiburg.
With a month of the transfer window still remaining, Liverpool’s position at the top of the spending table highlights the scale of their rebuild. Whether the Reds begin to balance the books through player sales before the deadline remains one of the key storylines to watch.
