I never really planned to make online gaming a hobby. It just happened gradually. At first, I would only play when I had nothing else doing, maybe for a few minutes before going to bed or when I was waiting for something. But these days, I actually look forward to playing.
There is something about having a game on your phone or computer that you can just open and start playing. You do not need to plan anything or go anywhere. When I have finished what I need to do for the day, I can sit down and play for a while.
I have tried different types of games, and I think three things are mainly responsible for why I enjoy it so much.
1. I Can Play Whenever I Have Time
This is probably the biggest reason for me. My schedule is not always the same, so I like hobbies that do not require me to follow a particular time.
If I have plenty of free time, I can play for longer. If I only have a short break, I can play one or two rounds and leave it there. There is no pressure.
It is also easy because I can use my phone. I do not have to set up a gaming console or buy expensive equipment before I can enjoy myself. As long as the game works on my device and I have internet when it is needed, I can play.
Sometimes, I am just sitting at home and have nothing urgent to do. Instead of scrolling through social media for one hour without even remembering what I saw, I would rather play a game.
That convenience has made a big difference for me.
2. I Don’t Get Bored With The Same Type Of Game
I like the fact that online gaming is not just one thing. There are plenty of options, so I can change what I am playing depending on what I feel like doing.
I may spend some time playing football games because I enjoy football. Another day, I could go for a puzzle game or something that requires more thinking. There are also games where you compete against other players, and those can become quite interesting when you are trying to improve.
Sometimes I download a game simply because I saw someone talking about it. I may not even expect much from it, but after playing for a few days, I find myself wanting to get better at it.
That is one thing I enjoy about gaming. You can always come across something different.
There are also games that you can play with friends. Once other people are involved, the experience can become completely different. You start taking the game more seriously, especially when somebody keeps beating you and you are determined to get your revenge in the next round.
3. I Enjoy The Challenge
I have realised that I enjoy games more when there is something to work towards.
It could be trying to win a difficult match, passing a particular level or simply beating my previous score. Even when nobody else is watching, I still want to do better than I did the last time.
The competitive side makes things interesting for me. When you are playing against another person, you cannot always predict what will happen. You have to pay attention and sometimes change your approach when things are not going your way.
And yes, losing can be annoying. There are times when I tell myself I will stop playing after one game, only to start another one because I feel I can do better. That has happened more than once.
Playing with friends can make it even more enjoyable. There is usually plenty of talking, teasing and bragging when somebody wins. It may be just a game, but everybody still wants to be the person that comes out on top.
Why I Have Started Enjoying Gaming More
I think the main thing that changed my attitude towards online games is that I stopped seeing them as something you only do when you are bored.
For me, it has become a simple hobby that I can enjoy when I have free time. I can choose what I want to play, stop whenever I need to and come back to it later.
I also like that I do not have to spend every free moment playing. There are other things to do, and those things remain important. Gaming is just something I enjoy doing when I have the chance.
Maybe I will eventually find another hobby that takes its place, but for now, online gaming has become one of those things I genuinely look forward to. And considering how casually I started, I did not expect that to happen.
