Antoine Griezmann delivered an emotional farewell performance at the Metropolitano after helping Atlético Madrid secure a 1-0 LaLiga victory over Girona FC on Sunday night.
The French forward, widely regarded as one of the club’s greatest players, provided the assist for the winning goal scored by Ademola Lookman in the 21st minute.
The assist also marked Griezmann’s 100th for Atletico Madrid, adding another milestone to a remarkable career with the Spanish club.
Playing what is expected to be his final home match before a reported move to Orlando City SC this summer, Griezmann wore the captain’s armband and revived the hairstyle he famously wore during his first spell at Atletico in the 2014-15 season.
The 34-year-old received a standing ovation from supporters at Metropolitano Stadium, where fans continued chanting his name long after the final whistle.
Teammates also paid tribute to the club legend, with captain Koke presenting Griezmann with a special commemorative jersey carrying the words “Rojiblanca Legend.”
Griezmann leaves Atletico Madrid as the club’s all time leading scorer with 212 goals and close to 500 appearances across all competitions.
Since returning to Atletico from FC Barcelona, the Frenchman has remained a key figure under manager Diego Simeone.
Sunday’s farewell was filled with emotion as supporters celebrated the career of one of the most influential players in Atletico Madrid history.
