Arne Slot vows to ‘fight on’ as Liverpool manager
LIVERPOOL, England – Liverpool manager Arne Slot said he intends to remain in charge and work through the club’s poor run of form after holding discussions with senior members of the club’s hierarchy following Wednesday’s 4-1 Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven.
The defeat was Liverpool’s ninth in their last 12 matches in all competitions and their third consecutive loss by a margin of three goals or more, intensifying scrutiny over the team’s direction and Slot’s future.
Slot confirmed he has spoken with sporting director Richard Hughes and other senior officials but insisted the dialogue remains unchanged. “We fight on, we try to improve – that’s what we all try,” Slot said. “The conversations have been the same since I arrived.”
The Dutch manager, who took charge in the summer, denied frustration with his squad but conceded performances had fallen below Liverpool’s usual standards. “There is pressure at a top club, and even more so when results are not there,” he said. “Last season we were pushed to win the league. Now the pressure is different because we have lost so many games.”
Liverpool have struggled with early concessions and sustaining momentum across 90 minutes, issues Slot believes have contributed to the current downturn. “We get knock after knock, which is hard, but that is why I keep saying we have to keep fighting,” he said. “That is what this club has been about for so many years.”
Liverpool travel to West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday, where they could receive a boost from the return of goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who missed the PSV match due to illness. Midfielder Florian Wirtz is also in contention after a muscle injury, while striker Hugo Ekitike will be assessed after picking up a back problem in midweek.
Slot’s determination to continue mirrors Liverpool’s broader strategy of stability despite recent results. The club will hope a return of key personnel and renewed consistency can halt their worst run of form in decades and restore momentum in the league and Europe.
