Lookman has drawn interest from top clubs like PSG and Arsenal, but Atalanta hopes to secure him with a new contract.
The Italian Serie A team Atalanta is seeking to entice Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman with a contract that will pay him €3.5million (₦6.35 billion) annually, reports Soccernet.ng.
Lookman joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig two seasons ago after struggling to make an impact at his former club. Since arriving, he has become a valuable player for Atalanta.
This campaign, the 27-year-old forward has excelled with 12 goals and five assists in 13 matches for La Dea. Altogether, Lookman has tallied 40 goals and 23 assists in 91 games for Atalanta.
Thanks to his stellar form at Atalanta, Lookman has piqued the interest of some elite clubs in Europe. Last season, PSG, Arsenal, and Manchester United were reportedly eager to sign Lookman, but Atalanta stood firm.
Currently, it appears La Dea are determined not to let the Super Eagles star depart. Soccernet.ng earlier reported that Atalanta was negotiating with Lookman to extend his contract beyond 2026, when it’s set to end.
As per a fresh update by Atalanta BC, they have presented a one-year extension worth €3.5million annually plus incentives. This almost doubles Lookman’s current yearly salary of €2.3million.
Should Lookman accept, he would become the fourth highest-paid athlete at Atalanta, following Gianluca Scamacca, Nicolo Zaniolo, and Ben Godfrey.
