Barcelona Coach Flick Suspended for Next Champions League Game
Barcelona’s coach Hansi Flick and his assistant Marcus Sorg have each been fined $23,320 and banned from coaching for one Champions League match. UEFA (the organization that runs European soccer) made this decision because of their bad behavior.
Flick was very angry about the referees’ calls during Barcelona’s 4-3 loss to Inter Milan in May. That defeat kept Barcelona from reaching the Champions League final for the first time in 10 years.
The punishment starts right away, so both coaches will miss Barcelona’s first Champions League game this season.
UEFA also punished some Barcelona players. Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski were each fined $5,500 for not following drug testing rules after the same game – they didn’t go to the testing area when they were supposed to.
Barcelona got more fines too: $5,775 because their fans threw things onto the field, and $2,750 for setting off fireworks. Inter Milan also got fined $24,200 for their fans blocking walkways and $12,650 for fireworks.
