Bayern Munich set European record with 14th straight win
Bayern Munich set a new European football record on Wednesday after defeating FC Cologne 4–1 in the German Cup, marking their 14th consecutive win to open the 2025–26 season across all competitions.
The result surpasses the previous benchmark of 13 straight victories at the start of a campaign, established by AC Milan in the 1992–93 season. Under Vincent Kompany, Bayern have won every fixture in the Bundesliga, German Cup, and Champions League, maintaining a perfect record through October.
Harry Kane led the charge once again, scoring twice to take his tally to 22 goals in 14 appearances. Despite conceding first — Ragnar Ache headed Cologne ahead in the 31st minute — Bayern responded swiftly. Luis Díaz equalized moments later, though replays suggested he was offside, with no video review available at this stage of the competition. Kane then turned sharply to fire Bayern ahead in the 38th minute before adding a second with a header from a corner after halftime. Michael Olise capped the win with a breakaway goal set up by Díaz.
“We’re always hungry, we always want to win and we’re never satisfied,” defender Jonathan Tah said after the match. “We’re happy today, but tomorrow we’ll focus on the next game.”
The performance underlined Bayern’s remarkable balance under Kompany — a side blending relentless attacking play with defensive control. Kane’s prolific form, coupled with Díaz’s energy on the flank and Olise’s creativity, has helped Bayern transition seamlessly under their new manager.
No team in Europe’s top five leagues has ever opened a season with more consecutive wins, placing Bayern’s start among the most dominant in modern football history. The club will look to extend that run when they return to Bundesliga action this weekend, as Kompany’s side continues to redefine early-season excellence.
