Bruno Fernandes opens door to Spain and Italy after Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes has revealed he would like to play in Spain or Italy once his time at Manchester United comes to an end, outlining his long-term ambitions while reaffirming his current commitment to the club.

The United captain, whose contract runs until June 2027, spoke in a two-part interview with Portuguese broadcaster Canal 11, where he addressed interest from abroad after turning down a lucrative move to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal last summer.

Fernandes made it clear that his future decisions will be driven by sporting motivation rather than money, stressing that his priority remains feeling valued at Old Trafford while keeping open the idea of a new challenge later in his career.

The timing of the comments is notable. At 31, Fernandes remains central to United’s plans and continues to operate at the highest level in the Premier League, even as speculation grows around elite European clubs monitoring his situation.

Having never played in Spain, Fernandes described La Liga as a personal ambition, while Italy holds deeper roots. He began his professional journey there with Novara, Udinese and Sampdoria before returning to Portugal with Sporting CP in 2017.

Italy, in particular, still resonates strongly. Fernandes highlighted personal and professional ties to the country, including family connections, and underlined that any move would need to involve a club competing for major honors rather than a transitional project.

The interview carried a reflective tone, with Fernandes carefully balancing loyalty and ambition. He explained that as long as he feels fully wanted at United, his focus remains unchanged, but he also acknowledged the importance of planning for life beyond the Premier League.

A return to Portugal was also addressed, though with caution. Fernandes admitted he has considered going back, with Sporting his preferred option out of respect and affection, but only if he believes he can still contribute meaningfully on the pitch.

There was no sense of urgency or dissatisfaction in his words. Instead, the midfielder framed his thoughts as part of a broader view on longevity, legacy, and maintaining a genuine love for the game.
