Calvin Bassey reached a major career milestone on Sunday after making his 100th appearance for Fulham FC in a 1-1 Premier League draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC at Molineux.
The match also marked the return of fellow Nigerian international Alex Iwobi, who featured again after recovering from a hamstring injury that had kept him out for several weeks.
Bassey has become one of Fulham manager Marco Silva’s most reliable defenders since joining the club from AFC Ajax in 2023.
The Super Eagles defender has earned praise for his consistency, versatility and strong defensive displays throughout the campaign.
Wolves made the brighter start and opened the scoring midway through the first half when Mateus Mane fired home after being set up by Hwang Hee-chan.
The hosts nearly doubled their lead before halftime, with Adam Armstrong hitting the post while Yerson Mosquera created problems from set pieces.
Fulham gradually settled into the contest, with Iwobi helping the visitors regain control in midfield during his first appearance since injury.
The equaliser arrived in stoppage time of the first half after VAR awarded Fulham a penalty. Antonee Robinson converted confidently from the spot to make it 1-1.
The second half saw more Nigerian involvement as Samuel Chukwueze came off the bench for Fulham, while Wolves introduced Tolu Arokodare in attack.
Both teams pushed for a winner late on, but goalkeepers José Sá and Bernd Leno produced important saves to ensure the points were shared.
Although the draw did little to improve Fulham’s hopes of European qualification, the day belonged to Bassey, whose century of appearances highlighted his growing importance at the club.
