Celtic options more Honda than Ferrari – Rodgers
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has acknowledged the club’s limited financial scope in the transfer market, likening the Scottish champions’ recruitment options to “a Honda rather than a Ferrari” as they look to strengthen the squad ahead of the new campaign.
Rodgers, who returned to Celtic for a second spell in charge last year, admitted the club must remain realistic about its spending power compared to elite European sides. The Northern Irishman said the focus remains on identifying players who fit the team’s tactical demands rather than chasing marquee names.
“We’re not shopping for Ferraris here,” Rodgers told reporters. “We have to be clever with what we can bring in — players with hunger, quality, and the right profile who can improve us.”
Celtic have been linked with several targets in recent weeks as Rodgers seeks reinforcements in key positions, including centre-back and midfield. The club’s transfer model traditionally emphasizes value and long-term development, often signing younger players from less prominent leagues and developing them for potential resale.
Rodgers praised the recruitment department for working within financial limits while maintaining the club’s domestic dominance. “The market is tough, especially for us,” he said. “But we’ve proven before that with the right scouting and coaching, we can find players who make a real impact.”
Celtic, who are aiming for a fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, remain committed to a sustainable transfer strategy rather than competing financially with wealthier European clubs. Rodgers’ comments underline the pragmatic approach the club continues to take as it balances ambition with financial restraint.
