Díaz wonder goal, outshining Liverpool forwards

MUNICH, Germany – Bayern Munich forward Luis Díaz continued his impressive start to life in Germany with a spectacular goal in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Union Berlin, extending his tally to 10 goals and five assists in 16 appearances across all competitions this season.

The Colombian winger, who joined Bayern from Liverpool in a £65 million ($86 million) transfer last summer, produced a moment of brilliance to keep Josip Stanišić’s pass in play, evade Janik Haberer’s challenge, and score from a tight angle — a goal widely praised as one of the Bundesliga’s finest this term.

While Bayern’s winning streak ended at 16 matches, Díaz’s individual form has drawn attention not only in Germany but also in England, where his former club Liverpool have struggled to replicate his attacking productivity.

Since Díaz’s departure, Liverpool’s new-look frontline has yet to find similar consistency. Record signing Alexander Isak has managed just one goal and one assist since arriving for £125 million ($165 million), while Florian Wirtz, signed for £116 million ($153 million), is still without a goal and has only two assists. Hugo Ekitike has scored five goals, Mohamed Salah four, and Cody Gakpo three, with none approaching Díaz’s current strike rate of a goal every 124 minutes.

Liverpool’s most efficient attacker this season, Federico Chiesa, averages a goal every 168 minutes, underlining the gap left by Díaz’s exit. The 27-year-old scored 13 league goals last season as Liverpool lifted the Premier League title but departed in search of a new challenge under Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel.

At Bayern, Díaz has flourished in a front line that includes Harry Kane and Michael Olise, combining pace, creativity, and clinical finishing. His direct play and composure in one-on-one situations have made him a key figure in Tuchel’s system, which relies on aggressive pressing and rapid transitions.

For Liverpool, currently fifth in the Premier League under new manager Arne Slot, Díaz’s form serves as a reminder of the quality they lost in the summer. For Bayern, his performances have further reinforced their attacking dominance in the Bundesliga as they chase another league title and a deep Champions League run.

Díaz’s resurgence in Munich marks not only a personal renaissance but also a statement of Bayern’s continued success in identifying and maximizing elite attacking talent.
