FC Cincinnati are closing in on a loan deal for Liverpool goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek, with the agreement set to include an option to buy as the MLS side strengthen their depth ahead of the new season.
The Polish youth international is expected to arrive from Anfield after spending the second half of last season on loan at National League side Forest Green Rovers, gaining senior experience away from Liverpool’s academy setup.
Mrozek joined Liverpool in the summer of 2020 from FC Wroclaw in a move valued at £250,000 and has steadily progressed through the club’s youth ranks. He made 17 appearances in Premier League 2 and became a regular presence at U21 level, earning a reputation as a composed and athletic shot stopper.
The move to Cincinnati is designed to add depth rather than disrupt the existing hierarchy. Roman Celentano remains the club’s clear first choice, while veteran Evan Louro provides experienced cover. The recent loan departure of academy goalkeeper Paul Walters to Bohemians created an opening on the depth chart, paving the way for Mrozek’s arrival.
Cincinnati head into the new campaign as established contenders after finishing second in the Eastern Conference last season. Their defensive platform was a key strength, anchored by United States international Miles Robinson and former Chelsea center back Matt Miazga, before their playoff run ended against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
The atmosphere around the club remains one of quiet confidence as preparations continue across competitions. Cincinnati have prioritized squad balance, ensuring competition in key areas while maintaining stability across the spine of the team.
Goalkeeping minutes may be limited initially for Mrozek, but the option to buy offers Cincinnati long term flexibility. The club will assess how quickly he adapts to the pace, travel demands, and physical nature of Major League Soccer.
In the second half of the season, rotation and fixture congestion could provide opportunities, particularly with domestic and continental commitments overlapping. Mrozek’s development trajectory suggests Cincinnati see more than just short term cover in the deal.
Attention now turns to continental action as Cincinnati return to competitive football on February 18 in the Concacaf Champions Cup against Universidad O&M away from home, before hosting the return leg at TQL Stadium on February 25, where squad depth could quickly come into focus.
