FIFA lifts Al-Nassr transfer ban after debt settlement
Al-Nassr have been cleared to register new players in January after FIFA lifted a sanction imposed on the Saudi Pro League leaders.
The governing body had barred the club from making signings due to an outstanding €9m debt owed to Manchester City relating to the transfer of defender Aymeric Laporte in the summer of 2023.
But with the payment now settled, FIFA revoked the ban within a week, allowing Jorge Jesus’s side to pursue reinforcements when the transfer window opens. Confirmation of the decision was reported by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
Squad reshuffle on the horizon
Sources close to the Riyadh club suggest significant changes are planned in the coming weeks. Brazilian goalkeeper Bento is expected to depart, freeing up a foreign player slot for a more attacking addition.
The move reflects Al-Nassr’s ambition to strengthen their forward line as they continue their push for domestic and continental success.
Injury concerns for Jesus
While the lifting of the sanction is a boost, Jorge Jesus has been dealt setbacks in defence. Mohamed Simakan is ruled out for at least four weeks with a back injury, while fellow defender Inigo Martinez is a doubt for the upcoming fixture.
The absences leave Al-Nassr short of options at the back as they prepare for a busy schedule.
Next fixture
Al-Nassr face Iraqi side Al Zawraa on 24 December in the AFC Champions League Two. Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to be rested, with the team already assured of qualification for the knockout stage.
The Portuguese forward has typically been spared group-stage fixtures in the competition, allowing Jesus to rotate his squad while maintaining momentum in the league.
With the transfer ban lifted and reinforcements expected, Al-Nassr will enter 2026 with renewed confidence. For Jorge Jesus, balancing squad depth with injury concerns will be key as the Saudi giants chase silverware on multiple fronts.
