Guirassy Fires Brace as Dortmund Extend Unbeaten Run with Commanding Win Over Union Berlin

DORTMUND – Serhou Guirassy’s red-hot form shows no signs of cooling off. The striker netted a first-half brace to inspire Borussia Dortmund to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Union Berlin at Signal Iduna Park, extending his side’s unbeaten Bundesliga run to 10 matches.

The win solidifies Dortmund’s strong start to the season and hands them a measure of revenge for last weekend’s frustrating draw against St. Pauli.

Union Berlin, fresh off an impressive win against Stuttgart, started with confidence but failed to test Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. The hosts, meanwhile, were initially wasteful. Guirassy, usually so clinical, was played through on goal by a Tom Rothe error but uncharacteristically failed to beat Union keeper Frederik Rønnow in a one-on-one situation.

The game exploded into life just before halftime. Union debutant Aaron Anselmino gifted Dortmund a chance with a misjudged header, but Andrej Ilić failed to hit the target with only Kobel to beat. Punishment was swift and decisive. Just two minutes later, Yan Couto created space on the right and delivered a superb cross for Guirassy, who made amends for his earlier miss with a precise volley to give Dortmund the lead.

The Guinean international wasn’t finished. Shortly after the break, he was at the heart of the action again, combining with Maximilian Beier before executing a clever, chipped finish over the onrushing Rønnow to double the advantage and extend his scoring streak to seven league games.

Any hopes of a Union comeback, akin to St. Pauli’s last week, were extinguished when Felix Nmecha latched onto a cleared corner and powered a thunderous strike into the net to seal the three points.

The victory continues a remarkable streak for Dortmund, who have now won at least one of their opening two Bundesliga fixtures for 18 consecutive seasons. For Union Berlin, despite the loss, manager Steffen Baumgart can take heart from a performance that was a significant improvement on their 6-0 defeat at this ground last February.
