Harry Kane Opens 2026-27 Account with Bayern Munich Brace in DFB-Pokal Win

Harry Kane opened his goalscoring account for the 2026-27 season with two goals as Bayern Munich came from behind to beat VfL Osnabrück 4-1 in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday.

The England captain struck Bayern’s equaliser in the 18th minute before converting a late penalty to complete his brace and help the German champions secure a comfortable victory after an early scare.

Osnabrück had taken the lead inside five minutes, but Bayern responded through Kane after the forward collected a ball played behind the defence and finished following a failed defensive clearance.

The goal was Kane’s first of the new campaign after he had failed to score in Bayern’s opening two competitive matches, despite the club winning both fixtures.

Kane ends early-season wait

Kane played the full match against Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup and featured for 84 minutes in Bayern’s Bundesliga victory over Stuttgart, but arrived in Osnabrück still searching for his first goal of the season.

He did not have to wait long on Bayern’s third official outing.

His equaliser changed the direction of the contest, allowing the visitors to regain control after their unexpected early setback. Tom Bischof then put Bayern ahead before half-time as Vincent Kompany’s side completed the turnaround.

Michael Olise extended Bayern’s advantage in the second half before Kane converted from the penalty spot in the 86th minute to complete the scoring.

Bayern recover after early Osnabrück setback

The 4-1 result ensured Bayern progressed in the DFB-Pokal and continued their winning start across three different competitions this season.

For Kane, the more significant individual development was the end of his brief scoring drought. The striker had been involved throughout Bayern’s opening fixtures but had not found the net before the cup tie.

His brace against Osnabrück offered another reminder of his importance to Bayern’s attack, particularly after the hosts had threatened to turn the match into an uncomfortable evening for the visitors with their early goal.

Bayern recovered quickly, however, with Kane’s equaliser providing the platform for a controlled response and a convincing final scoreline.

The result gives Bayern further momentum as they continue the early stages of their domestic campaign, while Kane will now look to build on his first two goals of the season in the matches ahead.
