Isak Expresses Eternal Gratitude to Newcastle Following Record Liverpool Move
Alexander Isak has publicly declared he will be “forever grateful” to Newcastle United and its supporters following his British record £125 million transfer to Liverpool, which was finalized on transfer deadline day.
The 25-year-old Swedish striker completed his move to Anfield on Monday, signing a six-year contract with the Premier League champions. The transfer concludes a protracted and often tense saga that saw the player effectively go on strike to force the move, missing the entirety of Newcastle’s pre-season and their first three league fixtures of the new campaign.
His absence led to a palpable shift in sentiment among the St. James’ Park faithful. During Newcastle’s recent goalless draw against Leeds United, fans chanted: “We don’t care about Isak, he don’t care about me, all we care about is NUFC.”
Despite the acrimonious end, Isak’s legacy at the club is significant. In a statement posted on Instagram, the forward looked back fondly on his three years on Tyneside, where he scored 54 goals in 86 Premier League appearances. His contribution was pivotal in the club’s recent success, including scoring in this year’s League Cup final victory that ended the Magpies’ 56-year wait for a major trophy.
“I want to express my gratitude to my teammates, the staff, and above all, the city of Newcastle and all the amazing supporters for the three unforgettable years we shared together,” Isak stated. “Together, we have written history and brought the club to the place where it truly belongs. It has been an honour to be part of the journey. Forever grateful. Thank you, Newcastle.”
In a brief official statement, Newcastle United confirmed the sale “for a significant British record transfer fee,” noting that Isak made 109 appearances in all competitions since joining from Real Sociedad in 2022.
The club had already begun planning for his departure, bringing in German international Nick Woltemade and DR Congo forward Yoane Wissa during the transfer window to bolster their attacking options.
