Jeff Shi Steps Aside as Wolves Executive Chairman Amid Winless Crisis

Wolverhampton Wanderers have made a significant leadership change with Jeff Shi stepping down from his role as executive chairman after almost a decade at the helm, as the club continues to struggle at the bottom of the Premier League.

The 48 year old exits his operational position with Wolves still without a league win this season, a run that has intensified pressure from supporters and sharpened scrutiny on the club’s direction.

Shi will remain chairman and chief executive of the Fosun Sports Group but will no longer be involved in day to day football operations at Molineux. His executive chairman duties have been handed to Nathan Shi on an interim basis, a Fosun executive who has been with the group since 2016 and is not related to Jeff Shi.

The decision comes at a critical point in Wolves’ season, with the club rooted to the foot of the table and facing the prospect of unwanted Premier League history. Another failure to secure three points would see them equal Sheffield United’s record for the longest winless start to a Premier League campaign, stretching to 17 matches.

Molineux remains tense as Wolves prepare to host Brentford, with the atmosphere reflecting a fanbase desperate for change both on and off the pitch. Early season optimism has faded, replaced by frustration over performances, recruitment, and results that have consistently gone against them.

Leadership instability has added to that sense of unease, even as players and staff attempt to focus on correcting on field issues. Wolves have shown brief flashes of competitiveness but have repeatedly been undone by defensive lapses and missed chances at crucial moments.

In a statement released by the club, Jeff Shi expressed gratitude for his time in charge and voiced full support for the incoming management team, stressing that his connection to the club remains strong despite stepping aside from executive duties.

Nathan Shi, now tasked with steadying the ship, acknowledged the scale of the challenge ahead and emphasised unity as Wolves look to arrest their slide. His immediate focus will be restoring stability and confidence as the season threatens to drift further away.

Saturday’s clash with Brentford now carries added significance, not only as a chance to end the winless run but as the first test of a new leadership era. For Wolves, the result could shape both their short term survival hopes and the tone of what comes next.
