Journalist Claims Man Utd Teen Keeper Is Better Than Onana & Bayindir: ‘Play Him for the Rest of the Season
Man Utd Urged to Take a Gamble on Teen Keeper Elyh Harrison Amid Ongoing Goalkeeper Woes
Manchester United’s goalkeeping problems just won’t go away—and now, there’s a bold new suggestion: ditch both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, and give 19-year-old Elyh Harrison a shot between the sticks.
Ever since David De Gea left in 2023, the Red Devils have struggled to find a steady hand in goal. Onana, brought in for a hefty £47 million after a standout season at Inter Milan, was supposed to be the answer. But so far, it hasn’t exactly worked out that way.
The Cameroonian hasn’t lived up to the hype at Old Trafford, and things went from bad to worse when he found himself in a public spat with ex-United man Nemanja Matic. Matic didn’t hold back, calling Onana one of the worst keepers in United history—harsh words, but many fans didn’t argue after Onana’s shaky Europa League performance against Lyon.
Manager Ruben Amorim decided to mix things up for Sunday’s Premier League game against Newcastle, benching Onana in favor of Bayindir. Unfortunately, that move didn’t stop the bleeding. United were hammered 4-1 at St. James’ Park.
To be fair, Bayindir wasn’t to blame for the first three goals—but he handed Newcastle their fourth after trying a risky pass that went horribly wrong.
Is it Time for a Wildcard Move? Enter Elyh Harrison
With the summer transfer window looming, United are already being linked with new keepers—including Burnley’s James Trafford—but one voice in the media, journalist Sully, thinks the solution might already be in-house.
Sully is pushing for a radical change, claiming that U21 keeper Elyh Harrison is already outperforming both Onana and Bayindir. To back it up, he shared a clip of Harrison pulling off an outrageous save against Reading’s U21 side.
The young shot-stopper joined United from Stevenage back in 2022. He spent the first half of this season on loan at Chester and returned to the club in January. Since then, he’s made 26 appearances across all competitions, keeping nine clean sheets and conceding 27 goals.
It might sound like a risky move, but considering the current state of United’s goalkeeping department, throwing Harrison into the mix might not be the wildest idea.
