Kane Brace Sends Bayern into Club World Cup Quarter-Finals

Harry Kane struck twice to fire Bayern Munich into the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup with a 4-2 win over a spirited Flamengo side at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.

Vincent Kompany’s team now move on to face Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain in Saturday’s last-eight clash in Atlanta, while Flamengo exit the tournament despite a gutsy performance that drew admiration from their massive travelling support.

It didn’t take long for the Bundesliga champions to stamp their authority on the match. Just six minutes in, Joshua Kimmich’s corner caused chaos in the Flamengo box and defender Erick Pulgar inadvertently headed the ball into his own net off the far post.

Only four minutes later, Bayern doubled their lead. Dayot Upamecano intercepted the ball deep in Flamengo territory and fed Kane, whose shot took a wicked deflection off Leo Ortiz and nestled into the bottom corner.

At that point, Bayern looked to be cruising. But the Brazilian giants, three-time Copa Libertadores winners, began to grow into the game. Luiz Araujo tested Manuel Neuer with a sharp effort and came close again moments later with a clever turn and shot that drifted just wide.

Their persistence paid off in the 33rd minute. Araujo, once again dangerous down the flank, whipped in a ball that eventually found its way to Gerson, who unleashed a thunderous drive past Neuer to ignite the 60,000-strong crowd.

But Flamengo’s hard work was undone just before the break. A poor clearance from Araujo landed at the feet of Leon Goretzka, who had time to pick his spot and curl a precise effort from 20 yards into the bottom corner to restore Bayern’s two-goal cushion.

Flamengo refused to go quietly and clawed another goal back ten minutes after the restart. Michael Olise was penalised for handball from Giorgian de Arrascaeta’s cross – a decision that typifies today’s tight VAR calls – and Jorginho kept his cool from the spot to make it 3-2.

Despite their energy and intent, Flamengo lacked the clinical edge needed to punish Bayern further – a contrast to the German side’s efficiency.

The result was sealed in the 73rd minute. Konrad Laimer won a key midfield battle and fed Kimmich, who threaded a perfect ball through to Kane. The England striker made no mistake, slotting past Agustin Rossi with power and precision to net his second of the night.

It wasn’t a flawless performance from Bayern, but their quality in key moments proved decisive – and now they turn their attention to a mouthwatering clash with PSG for a place in the semi-finals.
