Lewandowski bags brace as Barcelona demolish Dortmund 4-0
Barcelona cruised past visitors Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in their Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday, with Robert Lewandowski netting a brace against his former club to hand the Catalans a commanding lead before next week’s return leg in Germany.
Unbeaten since late December, treble-chasing Barca unsurprisingly controlled the early proceedings and broke the deadlock through Raphinha’s 25th-minute finish. A series of impressive stops by Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel kept Barca at bay for the rest of the first half.
Barcelona came out with renewed intensity after the break, needing just three minutes to double their lead as Raphinha set up Lewandowski, who headed in from close range.
The Polish forward stretched the advantage in the 66th minute with a precise finish from just inside the area, before Lamine Yamal sealed another dominant display by Barcelona in the 77th.
“We performed really well, but we’re not looking ahead to the semi-finals just yet — we need to maintain the same focus and mindset that got us this far,” Lewandowski told Movistar Plus.
“It doesn’t matter where or when we play — we always aim to stick to our style with full commitment.
“Our mentality is to go for victory every time, and that’s exactly how we’ll approach the match in Dortmund. We need to perform just as well, if not better, than we did today.”

Barcelona have been in exceptional form with a 23-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. They remain the only team in Europe’s top five leagues unbeaten in 2025 and are still vying for an impressive treble.
They top LaLiga, holding a four-point lead over Real Madrid, whom they will meet in the Copa del Rey final on April 26.
Under Hansi Flick, Barcelona have now netted 36 goals in 11 Champions League matches and 145 in 48 competitive games, thanks to their dynamic attacking trio of Lewandowski, Yamal, and Raphinha.
On Wednesday, Kobel thwarted Lewandowski and Yamal from close range, but he had no answer when Raphinha fired the ball over the goal line in the 26th minute.
After the break, Yamal made a surging run down the right wing and delivered a precise cross to the back post for Raphinha, who headed it back across goal, allowing an unmarked Lewandowski to finish from inches out.
Lewandowski furthered their advantage with a powerful strike, while Yamal completed the rout with a clinical finish following a swift counterattack.
“It’s a painful defeat,” Dortmund coach Niko Kovac told Movistar Plus.
“We anticipated more from ourselves, but we have to acknowledge that Barca are a top team. Today, they capitalized on every mistake we made, showing just how clinical they are in attack.”
