Maximilian Ibrahimovic in Talks Over AC Milan Exit as Ajax Circle
AC Milan are in discussions over the future of Maximilian Ibrahimovic, with the teenager reportedly weighing up a move away from the club amid interest from Ajax. Talks are understood to be ongoing over a potential loan deal that could see the winger follow a familiar family path.
Dutch outlet De Telegraaf reports that Ajax have opened negotiations with Milan over a loan move that would include an option to buy. The Eredivisie giants are said to have moved quickly as interest builds around the 18-year-old, who is currently part of Milan’s U23 setup.
Maximilian has held talks with several clubs in the Netherlands, but Ajax are believed to be his preferred destination. The Amsterdam side are planning to integrate him into their youth teams initially, while also allowing him to train regularly with Fred Grim’s first-team squad.
The timing of the move is significant. Maximilian remains under contract at Milan until 2027 and was called into Massimiliano Allegri’s senior squad in December for the Italian Super Cup semi-final against Napoli, although he did not feature. A switch would offer him consistent minutes and a clearer development pathway.
There is added resonance given his surname. Zlatan Ibrahimovic spent three formative seasons at Ajax between 2001 and 2004, scoring 48 goals in 110 appearances and winning multiple domestic honours before launching a career that took in Juventus, Inter, Milan, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and LA Galaxy.
That legacy still carries weight in Amsterdam. Ajax see Maximilian as a long-term project rather than an immediate solution, with plans to deploy him primarily on the left wing while monitoring his physical and tactical progress closely.
On the pitch, Maximilian is known for his direct running and willingness to take on defenders, traits that fit Ajax’s traditional attacking philosophy. Milan have been cautious with his exposure at senior level, preferring gradual development rather than fast-tracking him into high-pressure fixtures.
No deal has been finalised, but discussions are expected to continue into the winter window. Any agreement would require alignment on playing time guarantees and the structure of a potential purchase clause.
For Milan, the decision balances long-term potential against immediate squad needs as they push for domestic consistency. For Ajax, it represents a calculated investment in a young player carrying both promise and pedigree.
Both clubs return to competitive action shortly, with Milan travelling to Como in Serie A next Thursday and Ajax facing AZ Alkmaar in the KNVB Cup the day before. Whether Maximilian remains part of Milan’s plans or begins a new chapter in Amsterdam could be decided before then.
