The reason freshly appointed boss David Moyes has had instant influence on Everton’s results while Manchester United’s luck is yet to shift under Ruben Amorim is because Moyes is doing a finer job, Amorim said on Friday.
Amorim, who arrived in November, has won only four of his 14 English Premier League games, while Everton are on a five-match undefeated run under Moyes and have moved a point above 15th-placed United.
“Simple fact… David Moyes is doing a greater job than me. It’s really obvious,” Amorim, 40, told journalists before facing Everton on Saturday. “I think we must give credit to the squad of Everton and especially to the manager of Everton and that’s it. We need to do similar.”
Moyes, who previously coached Everton for more than ten years, faced comparable difficulties when he stepped in at United in 2013 after Alex Ferguson stepped down. Moyes was sacked 10 months into his spell as reigning champions United ended seventh.
The 61-year-old, who has won four of his six league fixtures since coming back to Everton in January, said having added experience helped him cope with the stress of the role.
“Sometimes you can settle yourself down, but don’t take my composure as meaning I’m not emotional,” he said. “Have I adjusted? Maybe a little. I’m not needing to battle the world all the time now, which when you first arrive you feel as if you ought to.”
