Premier League announces September 2025 Player and Manager of the Month nominees
The Premier League announced on Thursday the nominees for the September 2025 Player and Manager of the Month awards, with new winners certain after August’s recipients was left out of the latest shortlists.
Everton midfielder Jack Grealish, who claimed Player of the Month in August, and Liverpool coach Arne Slot, the Manager of the Month for the same period, has not been included this time.
Six players and four managers from across five clubs will instead compete for the awards.
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is among the leading contenders, scoring five goals in September including efforts against Arsenal and Manchester United. The Norway international also provided an assist during a prolific month for City.
Crystal Palace’s Daichi Kamada was recognised for his consistency after moving into a deeper role in coach Oliver Glasner’s system. The Japan midfielder has balanced creativity with defensive work, helping Palace extend their unbeaten start.
Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh scored in each of his side’s three games during September, including in a comeback victory over Chelsea that won praise for his direct style.
Promoted Sunderland was rewarded with two nominees. Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs kept two clean sheets while Switzerland’s Granit Xhaka assisted all of Sunderland’s goals in the month, guiding the club through a three-game unbeaten run.
Arsenal midfielder Martín Zubimendi completed the list after stepping up in the absence of injured captain Martin Ødegaard. The Spaniard scored a volley against Nottingham Forest and added more attacking contribution than expected.
For the managers’ award, Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta was nominated after his side beat Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, along with drawing against champions City. Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner remains unbeaten and oversaw victory against Liverpool.
Pep Guardiola earned a place after Manchester City hit nine goals in three matches, although defensive lapses has still been evident. Sunderland’s Régis Le Bris returned to the shortlist for a second straight month after lifting his newly promoted side into fifth place in the standings.
The winners will be announced later in October following the voting process involving supporters and a Premier League panel.
