Roma Target Disasi and Dragusin in January Defensive Push
Roma are preparing an aggressive January move to strengthen their defence, with Axel Disasi and Radu Dragusin emerging as two Premier League names under serious consideration. The Serie A club believe both defenders, currently facing uncertain situations at Chelsea and Tottenham, could provide immediate depth and quality at the Stadio Olimpico.
The focus is primarily on Disasi, who appears closest to the exit door after being frozen out at Stamford Bridge, while Dragusin remains a more complex situation due to Tottenham’s squad balance and his recent return from injury. Roma’s recruitment team see opportunity in both cases as the winter window approaches.
Roma have made defensive reinforcement a priority after an inconsistent first half of the season, with injuries and rotation exposing a lack of reliable options at centre back. January represents a critical window as they push for domestic consistency and European stability, making experienced international defenders an attractive solution.
Disasi’s situation has deteriorated rapidly in London. The French international has been sidelined under Enzo Maresca and has not featured competitively since April 22, 2025, when he appeared on loan at Aston Villa in a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City. With no permanent move agreed, the former Monaco defender has been left in limbo.
Chelsea have already signalled their willingness to sell a player they signed for £39 million in 2023, ruling out another loan due to domestic restrictions. Interest from Italy and France has been communicated, with Roma firmly informed of his availability ahead of January.
While Disasi’s story is defined by absence, Dragusin’s narrative has been one of recovery. The Romanian centre back spent much of 2025 sidelined after suffering knee ligament damage in a Europa League tie against Elfsborg, halting his momentum during a crucial phase of his Tottenham career.
Dragusin finally returned to action late in December, coming off the bench in Spurs’ 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on December 28. His comeback marked a significant milestone after nine months out, though questions remain over his long-term role in a squad already stocked with five central defenders.
Tottenham are understood to be seeking a naturally left-sided defender, which could force movement within the squad. Whether Dragusin is made available is still unclear, but any incoming addition would likely require a departure, keeping Roma alert to developments in north London.
For Roma, the coming weeks could define their defensive rebuild. Disasi represents an immediate market opportunity, while Dragusin is a longer-term gamble tied to Tottenham’s internal reshuffle. As January approaches, both situations remain fluid, but Roma’s intent to act is clear.
