Ronald Koeman offers his verdict on Barcelona’s defeat to Atletico

Barcelona coach Koeman
Ronald Koeman has assumed responsibility for Barcelona’s defeat against Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona coach Koeman on Atletico Madrid defeat: I am responsible

“It is worrying, ” he told Movistar. “For a big team, conceding a goal like this … it can’t be, because it’s the 47th minute, we had the ball and then they score, 1-0.

“We controlled and we knew that it was difficult to create many chances. We had a pair and with the score 0-0, the game would have been totally different [if they had taken either chance].

Barcelona lost 1-0 away to Atletico Madrid on Saturday night, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen making a rare mistake which allowed Yannick Carrasco to score.

Barcelona have picked up just 11 points from a possible 24, which Koeman accepts is not good enough.

“Like any coach I am responsible, ” he recognised. “We know that we have to improve the results and we have to trust the players I have.

“We must improve in attack and defence. We know that we need to go on a run of winning matches.”
