Sterling Rejected Five Clubs on Deadline Day Amid Chelsea Exit Standoff

LONDON, England – Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling reportedly rejected approaches from five clubs during the summer transfer window, ultimately remaining with the Premier League side despite being excluded from manager Enzo Maresca’s first-team plans, according to a BBC report.

The 30-year-old, who is part of a group of players deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, turned down interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus abroad, as well as Premier League clubs Fulham, Crystal Palace, and West Ham United. Personal reasons, including a preference to remain close to his family in England, are understood to have influenced his decision to stay despite limited prospects for playing time.

Sterling’s situation at Chelsea has become increasingly complicated since his £47.5 million move from Manchester City in 2022. The four-time Premier League winner has struggled to replicate his previous form, making just 81 appearances for the Blues compared to 339 during his trophy-laden spell at Etihad Stadium. His loan spell at Arsenal last season yielded only one goal and five assists in 17 league appearances.

Chelsea were reportedly open to offers for the England international, but potential moves were complicated by his wage demands and preference for staying in London. With the European transfer window now closed, Sterling is expected to train separately from the first team until at least the January window, continuing what has been a sharp decline for one of English football’s most decorated active players.
