Strasbourg Surge Continues with Big Win Over Saint-Étienne
RC Strasbourg Alsace kept their impressive momentum rolling as they powered past AS Saint-Étienne 3-1, stretching their unbeaten run to 11 matches and pulling level on points with Ligue 1’s third-placed AS Monaco.
It was clear from the start that Strasbourg meant business. With just seven minutes on the clock, Emanuel Emegha burst down the right flank, leaving defenders trailing before cutting the ball back for Diego Moreira, who rifled a stunning strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Sebastian Nanasi almost made it two shortly after, rattling the outside of the post. But just when it seemed Strasbourg were cruising, Saint-Étienne hit back. Léo Pétrot’s clever pass found Zuriko Davitashvili, who weaved inside and fired a clinical finish past the keeper to bring the visitors level.
Strasbourg pressed hard for a second before halftime, with Emegha looking especially lively. The Dutch forward had several chances to restore the lead but couldn’t quite find the net — even seeing one close-range finish ruled out after a VAR check.
The second half started at a slower pace, but the match sprang back into action after the hour mark. This time it was Moreira turning provider, floating a perfect ball to the back post where Emegha finally got his reward, tapping home from close range to restore Strasbourg’s advantage.
Saint-Étienne tried to rally, making a flurry of attacking substitutions. Lucas Stassin carved out their best chance, cutting in from the left only to see his effort sail narrowly over the bar. But it wasn’t to be their night.
Strasbourg sealed the deal with seven minutes left. Dilane Bakwa, picking up a loose ball on the edge of the area, unleashed a brilliant low volley that flew past Gautier Larsonneur and into the bottom corner — a strike worthy of sealing all three points.
The victory sees Liam Rosenior’s men climb into fifth place, firmly in the mix for European spots. Meanwhile, Saint-Étienne’s struggles continue — they remain 17th, just three points above the drop zone, having played a game more than their relegation rivals.
