WA bullish Serie A game in Australia will proceed
A scheduled Serie A exhibition match in Western Australia will proceed as planned, local organizers confirmed on Thursday, despite earlier doubts over logistics and player availability.
The event, which will bring top-flight Italian clubs to Perth’s Optus Stadium later this year, had faced uncertainty amid scheduling challenges and the European football calendar. However, Western Australia officials reaffirmed their commitment to host the fixture, describing it as a “major sporting showcase” for the state.
State Premier Roger Cook said negotiations with Serie A representatives had reached a positive conclusion, ensuring that the pre-season fixture will take place as part of a broader initiative to attract elite international sports to the region.
“We are delighted to confirm that Western Australia will host this world-class football event,” Cook said. “This is an opportunity for local fans to see some of the best players and clubs from Italy right here in Perth.”
The fixture is expected to feature two leading Serie A sides, though final team confirmations and dates are yet to be announced. The match forms part of a growing trend of European clubs staging off-season games in Asia-Pacific markets to expand their global reach and engage new audiences.
For Serie A, the Perth game represents another step in promoting the Italian top flight internationally, following similar showcases in the United States and the Middle East.
