The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has finally spoken up about the delays faced by Nigeria’s national football team at a Libyan airport.
Players and officials of the Super Eagles were left stranded at the Al Abraq International Airport for more than 15 hours, without access to food, water, or even the internet.
The team has now left Libya and will no longer participate in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier that was initially set for Tuesday (tomorrow).
CAF has passed the matter to its Disciplinary Board for a full investigation.
In their official statement, CAF said: “The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has been in touch with both Libyan and Nigerian authorities after being informed that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘Super Eagles’) and their technical crew were stuck in troubling conditions for hours at an airport, allegedly following instructions from Libyan officials.
“The issue has now been referred to CAF’s Disciplinary Board for further investigation, and necessary action will be taken against those found guilty of violating CAF Statutes and Regulations.”
