Trent’s Dream Move: ‘Only Real Madrid Could Take Me From Liverpool
Trent Alexander-Arnold has officially joined Real Madrid, with the club unveiling their new English defender at their training ground alongside Emilio Butragueno, Real’s Director of Institutional Relations.
Speaking at his presentation, Alexander-Arnold couldn’t hide his excitement about the move. “This is incredibly exciting for me – it’s a day I’ve been waiting for for ages,” he said. “I’m so proud right now. This really is a dream come true, and I can’t wait to get started, though I know there’s plenty of hard work ahead.”
The defender revealed that Madrid had always been his only choice if he were to leave Liverpool. “I’ve known for a long time that if I was going to leave Liverpool, it would only be for Real Madrid – nobody else,” he explained. “It was never about weighing up different options. The only question was whether I’d make the move to Madrid or stay put.”
Alexander-Arnold drew parallels between his old and new clubs, emphasizing the winning mentality at both. “I’ve been fortunate to play for England’s biggest club, and now I’m at Spain’s biggest,” he reflected. “Both have incredible trophy cabinets and have dominated their leagues. It’s an honor to represent them both. The expectations are similar too – you’re expected to win and perform at the highest level.”
The move reunites him with former Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso, who recently took over as Madrid’s manager after Alexander-Arnold helped Liverpool secure a second Premier League title under Arne Slot.
Alonso famously captained Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2005 in that unforgettable comeback against AC Milan in Istanbul – a match that clearly left a lasting impression on the young Alexander-Arnold. “Growing up as a Liverpool fan, watching that Istanbul final was special, and now I get to work with the manager who was at the heart of that incredible comeback,” he said.
“I owe him a lot for setting such high standards. We haven’t had a proper chat yet, but I’m looking forward to sitting down with him over the next few days to discuss what he expects from me,” the former Liverpool star concluded.
