Guardiola Hails Haaland’s ‘Insane’ Goal Numbers After Burnley Brace
MANCHESTER, England – Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola described Erling Haaland’s goal-scoring statistics as “insane” after the Norwegian striker netted a late brace in Saturday’s 5-1 Premier League victory over Burnley, taking his league tally to a competition-leading eight goals in six matches.
Haaland, who returned to the starting lineup after missing City’s midweek League Cup win due to a back injury, scored twice in the final 15 minutes at Etihad Stadium while also providing an assist for Matheus Nunes. The performance extended his scoring streak to four consecutive league games and highlighted City’s return to form following back-to-back losses last month.
“The numbers are insane. We can joke, but it’s really incredible,” Guardiola told reporters during his post-match press conference. “I think in the United game, the team showed another way, another body language. Even not playing good against Arsenal, how they defended, how they helped each other… it’s the key for everything.”
The 23-year-old forward recently became the fastest player in history to reach 50 Champions League goals, achieving the milestone in just 49 appearances during City’s 2-0 victory over Napoli earlier this month. His prolific start to the season has been instrumental in City climbing to second place in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Tottenham.
Guardiola emphasized the importance of City’s improved team spirit following their recent setbacks, noting the collective response after defeats to Tottenham and Brighton. The victory over Burnley marked City’s third consecutive match unbeaten as they prepare for Wednesday’s Champions League group stage encounter with Inter Milan.
