Liam Rosenior says he retains full backing from BlueCo despite Chelsea slipping further off the pace in the race for Champions League qualification.
Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday marked a fourth straight Premier League loss, leaving them seven points behind Liverpool in fifth place and under mounting pressure heading into the final stretch of the season.
Discontent among supporters was visible at Stamford Bridge, where boos followed the final whistle and protests were held against the ownership before kickoff. Co-owner Behdad Eghbali had recently expressed confidence in Rosenior, emphasising a long-term vision for the club.
Rosenior echoed that message, insisting the internal backing remains strong.
“The support has been clear,” he said on Monday. “In our conversations, they have been excellent with me and the team. We all understand results are needed now, but that does not change the long-term direction we are building towards.”
Appointed in January following the departure of Enzo Maresca, Rosenior has struggled to stabilise results during a difficult run that now threatens Chelsea’s European ambitions.
They travel to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday, with the table tightening behind them. Only three points separate Chelsea from Fulham in 12th place, increasing the risk of missing out on European football altogether.
Rosenior acknowledged the scale of the challenge but stressed the need for resilience.
“We’ve made things difficult for ourselves, and we have to be realistic about that,” he said. “But we cannot stop competing. The attitude and intensity we showed against Manchester United were positive, but we need to be more decisive.”
Chelsea’s recent struggles have been defined by missed chances and defensive lapses, and Rosenior pointed to both areas as key to any turnaround.
“We have to be more clinical in front of goal and stronger defensively. That balance is what will decide whether we can finish the season strongly,” he added.
With time running out, Chelsea’s focus now shifts to immediate results as they attempt to steady their campaign and keep their fading European hopes alive.
