ASFAR handed stadium ban and $100,000 fine after fan misconduct
Morocco’s ASFAR Rabat have been ordered to play their next two home matches behind closed doors and fined $100,000 following crowd trouble during last month’s African Champions League clash with Egypt’s Al Ahly.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) imposed the sanctions after fans threw objects onto the pitch and used lasers to distract players.
Breakdown of fines
ASFAR confirmed the penalties in a statement:
- $20,000 – use of lasers
- $15,000 – bottle throwing
- $15,000 – ball boys entering the field during play
- $50,000 – throwing a heavy metal construction tool onto the pitch
Matches behind closed doors
The Moroccan side will serve the ban in Group B fixtures against Algeria’s JS Kabylie on 30 January and Tanzania’s Young Africans on 3 February.
Group standings
Al Ahly currently lead Group B with four points from two matches, ahead of Young Africans on goal difference. ASFAR sit third with one point, while JS Kabylie are bottom.
The sanctions underline CAF’s zero-tolerance approach to crowd misconduct, with ASFAR now facing the challenge of playing crucial group-stage fixtures without home support.
