Defiant Amorim Under Fire as Manchester United Slip to 14th After Derby Loss

MANCHESTER, England – Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim defiantly defended his tactical philosophy after his team suffered a comprehensive 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in Sunday’s derby, leaving the club languishing in 14th position in the Premier League table.

The loss at Etihad Stadium marked United’s third defeat in five matches across all competitions, with City’s Erling Haaland scoring twice and Phil Foden adding a third in his first start of the season. Despite moments of promise, including a Bryan Mbeumo effort that required a spectacular save from Gianluigi Donnarumma, United were ultimately outclassed by their rivals.

When questioned about whether he should reconsider his tactical approach, Amorim offered a combative response: “I’m not going to change. When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you’ll have to change the men. I play my way, and I’m going to play my way until I want to change.”

The Portuguese manager, who has secured just eight league wins since his appointment last November, acknowledged the unsatisfactory record but pointed to underlying challenges. “There are a lot of things that you have no idea what happened during these months, but I accept that,” he told reporters.

With Chelsea visiting Old Trafford next Saturday and no European distractions, pressure continues to mount on Amorim, whose commitment to his system will face further scrutiny as United seek to climb from their disappointing league position.
