Enzo Fernández scored the decisive goal as Chelsea beat Leeds United 1-0 at Wembley to reach the FA Cup final, securing a vital response in their first match since the departure of former manager Liam Rosenior.
Fernandez struck in the first half, heading home from close range to settle a tense semi final and book Chelsea’s place against Manchester City, who advanced after defeating Southampton.
The result offers some relief for Chelsea after a turbulent week that saw Rosenior dismissed following a run of five consecutive defeats without scoring. Interim coach Calum McFarlane oversaw a more organised display as the club attempts to stabilise its season.
Chelsea created early chances but were nearly punished when Leeds midfielder Brenden Aaronson broke through on goal, only to miss the target. The London side responded quickly, with João Pedro hitting the post from close range.
The breakthrough came in the 23rd minute after Leeds defender Pascal Struijk lost possession in a dangerous area. Pedro Neto delivered a precise cross, allowing Fernandez to head into the far corner.
It was Chelsea’s first goal in nearly 300 minutes of football, ending a frustrating scoring drought.
Leeds improved after the interval and came close to equalising when substitute Anton Stach tested goalkeeper Robert Sánchez with a powerful effort. Dominic Calvert-Lewin also had a chance but failed to convert.
Sanchez was later involved in a heated moment after receiving treatment, with Leeds players questioning the delay, but Chelsea remained composed in the closing stages.
The victory sends Chelsea into their 17th FA Cup final and keeps alive their chance of ending a difficult campaign with silverware. For Leeds, it marks the end of a promising cup run, with the club still searching for a first final appearance in over five decades.
