Florentino Perez has been re-elected president of Real Madrid and will remain in charge of the Spanish giants until 2030 after defeating challenger Enrique Riquelme in the club’s presidential election.
The vote marked Real Madrid’s first contested presidential election in nearly 20 years, with club members turning out in large numbers to cast their ballots at the club’s training complex in Valdebebas.
Perez, 79, extended his long tenure at the helm of the club after securing another mandate from the membership. The businessman, who first became president in 2000, returned to office in 2009 and has overseen one of the most successful periods in Real Madrid’s history.
His latest victory follows previous re-elections in which he ran unopposed, reinforcing his position as one of the most influential figures in world football.
A key issue during the campaign was Perez’s proposal to modernise the club’s corporate structure. The plan includes bringing in a strategic investor through the sale of a small stake in the club, a move he argues would strengthen Real Madrid’s financial position while preserving member ownership.
The proposal generated debate among supporters, with critics raising concerns about the club’s traditional member-owned model. Perez has repeatedly insisted that Real Madrid will remain under the control of its socios and has pledged safeguards to protect the club’s ownership structure.
Beyond governance, Perez highlighted the commercial opportunities created by the renovated Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. He outlined plans to increase revenue through major events, new digital experiences and expanded partnerships.
On the sporting side, Perez also promised to strengthen Real Madrid’s squad as the club looks to compete for major trophies after a disappointing season in which it failed to win silverware.
Despite recent setbacks on the pitch, members once again placed their trust in Perez, whose presidency has delivered unprecedented success across football and basketball.
Under his leadership, Real Madrid have won numerous domestic and international titles, including multiple Champions League and La Liga crowns, cementing his legacy as the most successful president in the club’s history.
With a new mandate secured, Perez now faces the challenge of guiding Real Madrid through the next phase of its development, both on and off the field, as the club targets a return to winning ways.
