France have announced their squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026, and as always, a number of high-profile names have missed out on selection.
With France set to face Senegal, Iraq and Norway in Group I, manager Didier Deschamps has made several difficult decisions as he looks to guide Les Bleus to another World Cup title.
While France remain one of the favourites for the tournament, the final squad announcement has left several notable players watching from home.
Eduardo Camavinga
Eduardo Camavinga is perhaps the biggest surprise omission. The versatile midfielder has been a regular part of the French setup in recent years, but he failed to make the final squad despite his experience at the highest level.
Randal Kolo Muani
After playing a key role for France in previous international tournaments, Randal Kolo Muani has been left out. The forward’s absence removes an attacking option known for his pace, movement and work rate.
Khéphren Thuram
Khéphren Thuram misses out despite impressing at club level. The midfielder was viewed as a strong candidate to strengthen France’s midfield depth heading into the tournament.
Benjamin Pavard
World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard has not been included in the squad. His omission marks the end of a remarkable run that included helping France win the 2018 World Cup.
Wesley Fofana
Wesley Fofana has also been overlooked. Injuries have disrupted parts of his recent career, and he will not feature in France’s World Cup campaign.
Leny Yoro
One of France’s brightest young defenders, Leny Yoro, has been left out despite growing expectations around his future with the national team.
Pierre Kalulu
Pierre Kalulu misses the cut as competition for defensive places remains fierce in the French squad.
Corentin Tolisso
Experienced midfielder Corentin Tolisso will not be part of France’s World Cup plans despite his previous international pedigree.
Lucas Chevalier
Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier has been left out as Deschamps opted for other options between the posts.
Eli Junior Kroupi
Young forward Eli Junior Kroupi was unable to secure a place in the final squad despite being regarded as one of France’s emerging talents.
France Focused on World Cup Glory
France head into the FIFA World Cup 2026 with one of the strongest squads in the tournament, but the omission of several established stars and promising youngsters highlights the depth available to Deschamps.
Whether these decisions prove correct will become clear as Les Bleus begin their campaign against Senegal before facing Iraq and Norway in the group stage. For the players left out, the disappointment will be significant, but many will already be targeting a return for future international competitions.
