Inter Open Talks With Liverpool Over Curtis Jones Loan Deal

Inter have opened discussions with Liverpool over a potential loan move for midfielder Curtis Jones, with the Serie A side exploring a deal that could include an option to buy. The Liverpool academy graduate has found minutes harder to come by under Arne Slot this season, prompting speculation over his immediate future at Anfield.

The proposed move would see Jones head to Italy on a temporary basis, despite being tied to Liverpool until the summer of 2027. Inter’s interest has gathered momentum amid internal midfield considerations, although any deal remains far from advanced.

Last season appeared to mark a breakthrough for Jones, who made 46 appearances across all competitions, starting 27 matches as Liverpool surged to the Premier League title. It was his most involved campaign in a red shirt, and one that seemed to cement his place in the squad hierarchy.

At the time, the England international made it clear his focus was firmly on Liverpool, describing himself as a Scouser living the dream after years of development through the club’s academy system.

This season has unfolded very differently. Jones has started just 10 Premier League matches and has often been limited to substitute appearances, a shift that has inevitably raised questions about his role going forward. According to Fabrizio Romano, talks have taken place between Liverpool and Inter regarding a loan with a purchase option, linked in part to Inter midfielder Davide Frattesi attracting interest from Nottingham Forest.

However, that claim has been firmly played down in England. James Pearce of The Athletic has dismissed the report as inaccurate, insisting Jones is not expected to leave Liverpool.

Liverpool’s stance appears equally resolute. Reports from The Times indicate the club will not sanction the departure of any senior players before the winter transfer window closes on February 2. That policy reportedly extends beyond Jones, with Liverpool also resisting interest in left back Andrew Robertson.

Inter are understood to have explored a loan proposal with a view to a 40 million euro permanent move, but sources in Italy acknowledge the deal is considered a long shot at this stage.

For now, Jones remains part of Slot’s plans as Liverpool prepare for a crucial Premier League clash at home to Newcastle United. The Reds sit sixth in the table but could climb as high as fourth depending on results, making squad depth increasingly important as the season unfolds.

Slot himself has acknowledged the pressure surrounding Liverpool’s campaign, accepting scrutiny after last season’s title win. With the league table tightening and expectations still high, Jones’ immediate future looks set to be decided not by speculation, but by performances in the weeks ahead.
