Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer said his side lacked a clinical edge in front of goal after their UEFA Champions League campaign ended with a 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
The result sent PSG through to the final with a 6-5 aggregate victory after their strong first-leg performance proved decisive.
Speaking after the match, Neuer said Bayern failed to make the most of key moments despite creating opportunities to keep their hopes alive.
“I think we were missing that killer instinct in attack,” Neuer told DAZN. “We had chances to win the game, but we were not clinical enough when those moments came.”
The goalkeeper pointed to PSG’s finishing across the two legs as the difference between the sides, particularly the French club’s ability to convert chances in the first meeting.
“Paris were very efficient in front of goal, especially in the first leg. That is what we needed as well,” he said.
Bayern kept pushing and eventually scored through Harry Kane deep into stoppage time, but the late strike came too late to spark a comeback.
“Our goal arrived too late,” Neuer said. “There wasn’t enough time left to create another chance or force a set piece. The atmosphere in the stadium was incredible and the team gave everything, but in their penalty area we lacked precision.”
Despite the European disappointment, Bayern have already secured the Bundesliga title and still have the DFB-Pokal final to look forward to in Berlin.
For now, however, Neuer admitted the squad was struggling to move past the missed opportunity of falling short in Europe once again.
