Wolverhampton Wanderers have been relegated from the Premier League after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign, leaving Tolu Arokodare facing an uncertain future at the club.
Wolves’ drop was confirmed on Monday after West Ham United drew with Crystal Palace, a result that left them mathematically unable to close the gap to safety. With five matches still to play, they sit 16 points adrift.
The relegation brings an end to an eight year stay in the top flight for Wolves, who previously enjoyed success under Nuno Espírito Santo, including qualification for European competition and a period of stability in the league.
This season, however, has been defined by poor form and instability. Wolves have managed just three wins from 33 league matches, leaving them anchored to the bottom of the table. Attempts to change direction, including the departure of Vítor Pereira and the arrival of Rob Edwards, failed to reverse the decline.
Arokodare made 28 league appearances, scoring three goals and registering one assist, but his efforts could not prevent the club’s slide.
Off field issues have also added to uncertainty around the striker. Reports suggest he could leave the club this summer following a dressing room incident involving teammate Mateus Mane after a heavy defeat earlier this month.
The incident is said to have followed Wolves’ 4-0 loss away to West Ham at the London Stadium on April 10, a result that underlined their struggles. Arokodare, who featured briefly in that match, was reportedly involved in an altercation and was later left unused in the subsequent defeat to Leeds United.
Despite having four years remaining on his contract after a move from KRC Genk, speculation is growing over his future as the club prepares for life in the Championship.
Wolves’ decline has been linked to inconsistent performances and recruitment challenges over recent seasons, gradually undoing the progress made during their earlier rise.
With relegation confirmed, attention now turns to rebuilding. For Arokodare, the coming months are likely to be decisive as he weighs his next move and looks to regain momentum in his career.
