Eberechi Eze Nears Crystal Palace Exit as Tottenham Step Up Pursuit
Eberechi Eze is edging closer to a move away from Crystal Palace, with Tottenham Hotspur intensifying efforts to sign the England international in what could become the most expensive sale in Palace’s history.
Despite widespread speculation over his future, the 27-year-old featured for Palace in their opening-day 0–0 draw with Chelsea, even seeing an early free-kick goal ruled out by VAR. But his stay at Selhurst Park looks increasingly temporary.
According to The Guardian, Spurs have held “further talks” with Palace over Eze, who is believed to be open to the move. Palace are reluctant to sanction his exit until they secure a replacement, but momentum appears to be building towards a deal.
Tottenham initially chose not to trigger Eze’s £68 million release clause, which expired last Friday and would have required the full sum up front. Instead, the north London club are negotiating a package worth £55 million guaranteed, plus performance-related add-ons.
Eze, a boyhood Arsenal fan and former academy player, is represented by an influential agency with strong ties to Spurs. His potential arrival has taken on greater urgency following James Maddison’s ACL injury and Dejan Kulusevski’s absence, leaving Ange Postecoglou short of creative options.
A switch to Spurs would also give Eze Champions League football this season, a reward for a career that has required remarkable resilience. Released by Arsenal at 13 and later let go by Millwall at 18, he was close to dropping out of football before earning a trial at Queens Park Rangers. He went on to impress, secure a professional deal, and eventually move to Palace in 2020 for £17 million.
QPR stand to benefit again from his progress, having inserted a 15% sell-on clause in the deal. With Eze now poised for a record-breaking transfer, the Championship club could receive a significant windfall.
