Bayern Munich Bolster Attack with Loan Capture of Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson
MUNICH, Germany – Bayern Munich have strengthened their attacking options with the signing of Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson on an initial loan deal, which includes a mandatory obligation to make the transfer permanent.
The Bundesliga giants will pay a loan fee of €16.5 million before the obligation clause, reported to be set at approximately €40 million, comes into effect in 2026. The 24-year-old Senegalese international has signed a five-year contract with Bayern, tying him to the club until the summer of 2031.
The transfer was briefly thrown into doubt in a dramatic late twist. After Jackson had flown to Germany to undergo a medical and finalise terms, Chelsea temporarily blocked the move due to a sudden injury crisis within their forward line.
With new signing Liam Delap sidelined for two months, key attacker Cole Palmer recovering from a groin issue, and Christopher Nkunku having recently completed a move to AC Milan, manager Enzo Maresca faced the prospect of being left with only Joao Pedro as a fit senior striker.
The delay reportedly caused frustration for Jackson, but negotiations between the two clubs resumed swiftly. A compromise was reached, allowing the deal to proceed and ensuring all parties were satisfied with the outcome.
Jackson arrives at the Allianz Arena after a single season at Chelsea, where he scored 17 goals across all competitions. Known for his explosive pace, intelligent off-the-ball movement, and improving finishing, he is seen as a versatile forward who can lead the line for new Bayern manager Vincent Kompany.
For Bayern, the structured nature of the deal—a loan with a long-term obligation—provides an immediate solution to their attacking needs while managing financial commitments. For Chelsea, it represents a significant financial return on a player signed just one year ago and helps streamline a crowded squad.
