FC Barcelona remain interested in signing Julián Álvarez, despite Real Madrid seeing a reported €150 million bid for the striker rejected by Atlético Madrid this week.
Barcelona have been monitoring Alvarez’s situation for several months and continue to view the Argentina international as a long-term attacking target. Sources close to the situation suggest the player would be open to a move to Camp Nou if an agreement between the clubs could be reached.
Real Madrid unexpectedly entered the race after failing to make progress in their pursuit of Michael Olise. The Bayern Munich winger had reportedly been one of the club’s preferred attacking targets ahead of the new season.
However, Bayern made it clear they had no intention of selling Olise, forcing Madrid president Florentino Pérez to explore alternative options.
Madrid then tested Atletico’s resolve with a €150 million offer for Alvarez, but the proposal was immediately rejected.
Atletico are determined to keep one of their most important players and have no plans to negotiate with their city rivals. Club officials reportedly view Alvarez as a key figure in the team’s future and are unwilling to consider his departure this summer.
There are different views regarding Madrid’s approach. Some sources believe the offer represented a serious attempt to sign the former Manchester City forward after the Olise pursuit stalled.
Others believe the move was largely symbolic, designed to show Madrid’s willingness to invest heavily under manager José Mourinho ahead of the new campaign.
Another theory circulating in Spain suggests the bid may have been intended to complicate Barcelona’s plans by increasing uncertainty around Alvarez’s future.
Despite the growing interest from Europe’s biggest clubs, Atletico’s position remains unchanged. The Madrid side are not actively considering offers and want Alvarez to remain at the club beyond this season.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have also been linked with the striker but are believed to be focusing on alternative targets due to the financial challenges involved in any potential deal.
Paris Saint-Germain continue to admire Alvarez and are monitoring developments, although no formal move has been reported.
Following Atletico’s rejection, Real Madrid are expected to assess other attacking options. One player understood to be highly rated within the club is Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Paris Saint-Germain, who remains among the names being considered as Madrid prepare for the summer transfer window.
For now, Alvarez remains an Atletico player, but interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal and PSG ensures his future will remain one of the major stories of the upcoming transfer market.
