Bayern lament: ”We gave Alaba an ultimatum and maybe it wasn’t necessary”

Hasan Salihamidzic, sporting director of Bayern, gave an interview to ‘Zeit’. He admitted, among other things, that the club did not do well with David Alaba. They gave him an ultimatum and now that he has spent some time and is at Real Madrid, the executive considers that they should have given him room to think.

At the end of May 2021, Real Madrid signed David Alaba. His contract with Bayern expired on June 30 of that year, so he reached the Santiago Bernabéu at zero cost.

Bayern tried to get the player to stay, but they had no luck. Hasan Salinhamidzic explained to ‘Zeit’ what really happened and why Alaba left Bayern.

”We offer you a lot of money, from our point of view. There was a meeting with David’s advisers and we gave the player an ultimatum. We told him he had to make a decision,” explained the sporting director.

With that firm stance, Alaba chose to pack, something Bayern still regrets. ”From the point of view now, I would say that maybe it wasn’t necessary, that we should have given a deadline to a player of Alaba’s quality…” he acknowledged.

Among other things, Salihamidzic referred to Lewandowski’s departure to Barça. He said that within the clune they never understood his way of acting and that he should have done things differently.
